North London: New Constituency Boundaries 2006

Each new seat can be described as a combination of parts of old seats. These table show this decomposition. The winner of the old seat at the 2005 election is shown by party colour, as is the implied winner of the new seat.

The implied results are now calculated using the local election results for the wards which make up each old seat. This should be more accurate than the earlier implied results which assumed each constituency was homogeneous.

North London is rather complicated. Brent loses a seat (the old Brent South) which was Labour. But the old Brent East (Lib Dem) is renamed Brent Central and includes parts of the old Brent South leaving it predicted to be a Labour seat. Changes to boundaries cause Labour to lose two more seats to the Conservatives (Finchley and Golders Green) and the Lib Dems (Hampstead and Kilburn). Over in Havering, the old Hornchurch (Con) seat disappears. But in Chelsea, the new Chelsea and Fulham seat is predicted to be Conservative. Finally the new seat of Hammersmith is counted as a Labour gain over the old Conservative seat of Hammersmith and Fulham. The net result gives the Conservatives one more seat, Labour two less, and the Lib Dems level.

Note that two seats seem not to add up to 100%. The old seat of Ealing Acton and Shepherd's Bush was divided between Hammersmith (North London) and Ealing (South London). The Hammersmith fraction (39.3%) has been put into the new Hammersmith seat. The remainder goes into the new (South London) seat of Ealing Central and Acton. The new seat of Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner is made up of parts of Harrow (the old Harrow West seat), but the larger part comes from the (South London) borough of Hillingdon. It is shown on the South London pages, so only 69.1% of Harrow West is shown on the table below.
