Working with pollster Find Out Now, Electoral Calculus has run a poll on the upcoming election for West Midlands Mayor on 6 May.
The main contenders are incumbent Andy Street (Con) and former cabinet minister Liam Byrne (Lab).
The election allows voters to make both a first and a second choice for mayor. If their first choice doesn't make it to the final two, but their second choice does, then that second-choice vote will count in the final totals.
For both rounds of voting, the poll of West Midlands voters shows the following levels of support:

The poll indicates that the Conservative and Labour candidates are the top two candidates which will go into the final round. Andy Street (Con) is ahead of Liam Byrne (Lab) by 7% in the first round, but this falls to 4% in the final round.

Martin Baxter, CEO of Electoral Calculus, said "It's another tight race for West Midlands Mayor, with Andy Street just ahead again according to our poll. But his lead is less than the margin of error, so it's not done and dusted yet."
Find Out Now polled 1,000 adults online in the West Midlands from 1 to 7 April 2021. The sample was chosen to be regionally representative by gender, age, social grade and past voting patterns. Percentages shown exclude those who preferred not to give an opinion, don't knows, those who wouldn't vote and were weighted by likelihood to vote.
